This Week in School

I am happy to report that we have had a wonderful start to the new school year, and the children have settled in really nicely. A big welcome to our new parents and pupils! Please look out for our newsletter every Friday, as you will find out important information about key events and dates here.

Meet the Teachers – Wednesday 13th September – Years 1-6

You are invited to attend our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions after school on Wednesday next week from 3.35pm onwards. Your child’s new teacher will informally introduce themselves, and invite parents to visit the classroom and have a look at some resources. It is an excellent opportunity for teachers and parents alike to say hello and put a face to the name. I will hold a short meeting beforehand in the school hall for parents at 3pm. Both new and established parents are welcome, and I will do a short presentation. If you are worried about being blocked in by parents attending these meetings, we encourage you to park off site on this occasion. Thank you for your understanding.

Meet the Teacher/Understand Phonics for EYFS Parents – Friday 29th September

A separate evening to ‘Meet the Teacher’ and hear about how Phonics works in EYFS will be held by Mrs Weetch for EYFS parents on Friday 29th September. This will take place at 3pm in the school hall. Please see the Autumn Term letter from Mrs Weetch for further details. EYFS parents are, of course, invited to attend my short presentation on Wednesday 13th (see above).

Clubs at St George’s

We are planning to run a number of clubs this year to widen our offer of extra-curricular activities for our pupils. These clubs will be run by staff members and there will be no charge to parents. They will run for a term, and will be limited to certain year groups and may have a cap in numbers. This will mean they will run on a first come, first served basis.

Each teacher will send information to parents directly on the club, and registration will be through Google Forms unless otherwise stated.

We are aiming to get a paid Swimming Club up and running again this year too, and we will provide further information on this in the coming weeks.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Miss Roberts will run a Dance Club in the Autumn Term for children from Year 2,3 and 4.

This will be a fun after school dance club where children can be creative and explore a range of dance styles. The club focuses on teamwork, building children's strength, stamina, flexibility, co-ordination, and confidence. We will be focusing on different dance styles each week including Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Street Dance.

Mrs Potter and Mrs Spence will run a Sewing Club in the Autumn Term for Year 5 and 6 children. In order to support the children adequately, the club will be limited to 8-10 children.

Mr Lake will run a Tag Rugby Club in the Autumn Term for Year 5 and 6 pupils.

Mrs Weetch will run a mindfulness colouring club in the second half of the Autumn Term for Year 3 and 4 pupils. She will offer the same club to other year groups at a later stage in the year. Details to follow.

Mr Hughes will run a Strategy Games Club in the first half of the Spring Term for Year 5 and 6 children. This will involve playing board games or mathematical games such as Chess or Battleships but with more of an edge to them.

Mrs Carpenter and Mrs McNamara will run a Construction Club for Year 1 and 2 children in the second half of the Spring Term. This will involve designing and building construction models. There will be a limit of 8-10 pupils for this club.

Mrs Carpenter and Mrs McNamara will run a Cooking Club in the second half of the Summer Term for Year 3 and 4 children. There will be a limit of 8-10 pupils for this club.
