Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

It has been a busy week in school, with staff and pupils quietly getting their heads down and carrying on with the curriculum. We have an amazing team here at St George’s and the most wonderful pupils, and in my opinion (although I am probably biased!) they are not praised enough for the hard work and commitment they show every day at our lovely school. And as we all know, the school day doesn’t end at 3.30pm. I popped to Library Club after school yesterday to see Mrs Earp and her busy bees in action, and was impressed by the wonderful job they were doing, ensuring books are re-shelved and stored in the correct places so more children can enjoy browsing for books and enjoying their favourite authors. Every child was busy and smiling, and it was a joy to see. Afterwards, I popped to see Mr Lake and the Tag Rugby team at Ash Meadows and there were more smiles to be seen! Mr Lake was so impressed with the children, not just for their sporting acumen, but for their positivity and team spirit. As we walked back to St George’s, I couldn’t help but feel really proud to be the Headteacher of this wonderful school. Thank you to all involved in our school community who make St George’s a wonderful place to be.

Harvest Mass in Church, Sunday 15th October at 9.15am– Readers Needed

On Sunday 15th October, children from our school will help to lead a Harvest Mass at St George’s Church. This will be at 9.15am. We are asking that members of the choir are present to add their lovely voices to the occasion. In addition, if your child is interested in reading at the Mass, do encourage them to let me know and I will try my best to find them a part. This will be on a first come, first served basis and selected children will receive a permission slip and a copy of their reading to take home. Readers will need to be available on the day and arrive at Church early, at 9.00am, so we can prepare.

Parent’s Evening

The booking system to book your child’s upcoming parent teacher meeting will open at 7pm on Tuesday, 3rd October. Booking details will be sent to new parents as a paper copy in your child’s bookbag on Monday next week. The login details remain the same for all other parents. If you have any trouble logging in, or have forgotten your login details, please contact the school office at your earliest opportunity.

Mobile Phones / Electronic devices

It is our school procedure that pupils should not bring mobile phones or other electronic devices, such as smart watches, to school.

The parents of Year 6 pupils who walk to and from school without an accompanying adult sometimes feel it is necessary for their child to carry a mobile phone for safety on the days that they are walking home. In this instance, the following procedure must be followed:

  • Pupils are not permitted to use mobile phones or any other electronic devices during school hours.
  • Devices should be given to the relevant staff member upon arrival at school and collected at the end of the day. The school day includes Breakfast Club and After School Club, for those children who attend.

Thank you for your co-operation with this.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
