Dear Parents and Carers,

This Week in School

We held a special assembly this morning for Remembrance Day. The whole school gathered together to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have fought in wars to protect our freedom. We said the following prayer in their memory:

                                                          REMEMBRANCE DAY PRAYER

God our Father,

Today we remember those who fought and died for our freedom.

We ask you to bless and console them together with their families.

Help us to understand the sacrifices they made in leaving their loved ones to face the distresses of war.

May we never forget their generosity.

May your Holy Spirit give us the courage to show us how to be peacemakers through prayer and action, lest we forget those who fought, suffered and died that we might have the freedom and peace we enjoy today.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

We played The Last Post and had a two minute silence during which the children were exceptionally respectful and reflective. It was a very special moment and the staff all felt very proud to mark it with the children.

We would like to thank our St George’s Community for their kindness and generosity this week in providing the children with money to purchase items from our School Poppy Shop. The office staff commented on how well supported it has been on this occasion, and the Year 6 pupils were praised by many staff across the school who found them to be very proactive and responsible in their running of the Poppy Shop. We are always inspired by how our community pulls together to make wonderful things happen.

Stranger Danger Reminder – Reported Local Incident

I am unable to go into any details, but I have been made aware of a worrying local incident related to stranger danger. I am including in this email advice on keeping children safe. Please be vigilant as you leave the school grounds and keep your children close.

Amenities/Swimming Contributions

Please can I remind all parents and carers that each year, we ask for a voluntary contribution of

£10 per term per child for swimming, and £10 per term for each family for School Amenities.

The school has always traditionally asked parents and carers for an amenity contribution. The Amenities Fund allows the school to give children extra opportunities and experiences such as visiting artists, performers, and sport companies. We feel it is crucial that the children continue to have these WOW moments and with the rising costs of funding school everts and maintaining and running the swimming pool, we would really appreciate your contribution to allow this to continue.

Payments for Swimming and Amenities can be paid online, details are as follows:

Bank Account Number: 02887152 Sort-Code: 30-98-45

Please quote reference S for Swimming and A for Amenities

School Snacks

At St George’s, we strive to be as healthy and active as possible and encourage healthy eating and drinking habits.

During the school day, children are encouraged to drink water and during the morning break, children may have a fruit or vegetable snack. In KS1, fruit and vegetables are provided via Government funding, and in KS2, children need to bring a snack from home.

Please can we take this opportunity to remind you that these snacks must be fruit or vegetables and children are  not permitted to eat crisps or other lunch box items during this time. We appreciate your support with this.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell
