Dear Parents and Carers,

The End of an Era – Mrs Buck Retires

It was a sad occasion to see Mrs Buck hang up her hat after 23 long and dedicated years at our school. Anyone who knows Sonia knows that she has brought ample amounts of fun and enthusiasm to our school in that time. It will be sad not to hear her hearty laugh ringing out through the halls and the staff room. She always finds the joy and the laughter in any situation, and I think that is what we will miss the most. But that is not to do a disservice to her hard work, kindness, care, consideration and her very big heart, which we all know she wears on her sleeve! She has been a dedicated teaching assistant, a brilliant Breakfast Club supervisor, a fantastic dinner lady, a loyal friend, a caring confidante. She is truly one-in-a-million.

We have been celebrating Mrs Buck’s enormous contribution to our school all week, and it is hard to say a big enough THANK YOU to someone who is as special as she is. But we hope that through all the celebrations, Mrs Buck can see how important she is to us, how much we value the impact she has had on our school, and to be plain – how much we love her!

And her generous nature shone through once again with her very kind donation of a brand-new basketball hoop for our outdoor basketball court. Mr C and Mr Buck were here, under Mrs Buck’s careful supervision, until 7pm on Wednesday evening setting the new hoop up and ensuring that it was up to safety standards. Our school Governors have kindly contributed a second basketball hoop to complete the set, and now when we play basketball at St George’s, we will think of Mrs Buck and her amazing contribution to our school. The children have certainly been giving ‘Bucky’s Backboards’ a good trial since the big reveal and they are sure to bring joy to many children in the years to come.

Mrs B, you will always be in our hearts and we want you to know we love you.

Remember, once a St George’s girl, ALWAYS a St George’s girl!

Parent Café – Macmillan

We held a successful café for parents last Friday to raise money for a very worthy charity and one that is close to many people’s heart – Macmillan. This was following a whole-school Cake Sale led by Year 5 and 6 pupils during the school day. The total raised was £285 and we are so grateful to parents, staff and pupils for supporting our fundraising efforts. Please see photos below.

Swimming Lessons Have Resumed

We are pleased that the re-opening of the pool this week went well and there were lots of positive comments about the refurbishment. Please can we remind parents that children must wear their school uniform on swimming days. PE kit is only to be worn on PE days. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Here is the Swimming timetable for those who are unaware:

Tuesdays: KS1 - Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 2

Wednesdays: KS2 – Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

Stingrays Group will swim next week (week beginning 7th October). It will alternate between Stingrays and Seahorses as usual, as listed on the school website calendar. If you are unsure which group your child is in, please speak to Mr Chidgey or the Class teacher.

Temporary Cleaning Hours available at school

We have some temporary cleaning hours available at the moment as we have a staff member who is unwell. This will likely be for several months in the first instance. The hours are after school Monday to Friday, and the school may be able to support with free childcare. If you believe you can support us with this, please get in touch with the school office.

School Photographs

Just a reminder that Tempest Photography will be visiting on Friday 11th October to take the annual school photographs. Every child will have their photograph taken. The photographer will be available to take family photographs with any younger children between 8 – 9 in the morning. Please bring them to the school hall.

Flu Vaccinations

The vaccination team will be visiting school on Monday 4th November to administer flu nasal vaccinations. Please remember to complete the decision form even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccination. The link is below and our unique school code is SM123851.
