French
At St George’s Catholic Primary School, French is taught weekly from Years 3 to 6. We intend for all our pupils to have:
- The confidence to speak with good intonation and pronunciation.
- Fluency in reading.
- Fluency and imagination in writing.
- A strong awareness of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.
- A passion for languages and a commitment to the subject.
- The ability to use language creatively and spontaneously.
- An independence in their studies and the ability to draw upon a wide range of resources.
The children learn in a fun and interactive way through songs and games and a range of listening and reading activities.
The scheme we use is: La Jolie Ronde.
We have links to a partner school in France through pupils who have family links to France. We have written letters to our partner school and shared video messages about our school days.
We recently hosted a 'French Day' and children were able to buy food in French from a 'pop up boulangerie' and were given the opportunity to speak in French throughout the whole day.
