6th March 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
World Book Day 2026
To celebrate World Book Day this year at St George’s, we held two exciting, reading-themed events.
On Wednesday the children shared their favourite books with each other at a Reading Café in their class. Our Governors attended, and they enjoyed chatting to the children about their books, and hearing all about why they would recommend them. It was a lovely opportunity to stop, drop, read and share.
On Thursday, we held a fun-filled day of reading themed workshops across the school. The children were split into mixed age groups, and every class was represented in each group. The groups moved around the school in turn to experience the different workshops led by staff, all with a reading theme of course!
I have posted some photos of the day on the Google Classroom, on the ‘St George’s Events’ page.
If you would like to view these, please ensure you are logged into your child’s google classroom, and on the home page, click the + button to add a new classroom. Then type in the following code: 53tuosj
Your child will then be a member of the group and can view the photos. If you have trouble viewing the photos and a ‘preview not available’ message pops up, try clicking the three dots in the top right corner and selecting ‘open in new window’.
The classroom is a private group for St George’s families only and we would ask that the photos are not shared or posted to social media. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
Magic James’ Magic Show
On Monday 9th March, Magic James is returning to St George’s for a special magic show! This will be held in the main school hall from 6.15pm – 7.15pm. This is sure to be a fun family event – we hope you can make it!
Admission is £5 per adult and £5 per child, payable on the door. Not suitable for children under 3years of age.
Year 5 Class Assembly
Year 5 parents and carers are invited to join us for their child’s class assembly. This will take place on Wednesday 18th March in the main school hall. Our Year 5 pupils are excited to tell you all about their fantastic trip to Kilve Court last week. We are looking forward to hearing about their adventures!
The Big Lent Swim for CAFOD
During Lent, we are completing a Big Lent Swim for CAFOD as part of our commitment to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Children are invited to take on the challenge, “How far will you swim in 40 days for life-saving water?”, by bringing a £1 entry fee to support CAFOD’s Water Aid appeal. Throughout their swimming lessons, pupils will be supported by the adults to record the lengths or metres they swim, building a cumulative total across the 40 days of Lent. At the end of the challenge, we will calculate class totals and a whole-school distance in kilometres, celebrating our shared achievement in a special assembly. We hope this initiative will raise valuable funds while encouraging our children to grow fitter, challenge themselves and take pride in a collective effort for a worthy cause.
The donation sheet went out this week in book bags and thank you to those who have returned the £1 entry fee. The £1 fee can be passed on to a member of the office team, or to your child’s class teacher. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
