Dear Parents and Carers,

Penitential Service

We held our termly Penitential Service this afternoon for our Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils. It is always lovely to welcome Fr Tom, Fr Rajesh and Fr Noriel into our school, and they are very good in giving their time to support our pupils with their faith journey. The Penitential Service is an opportunity for children who have made their First Confession to speak to a priest, and to share the things that may be weighing them down a bit. It can be the smallest of things, like refusing to share with a sibling, to the bigger things like being disrespectful to their parents or telling lies. The children usually feel much lighter to have shared these things and to receive compassion and forgiveness for their mistakes. After all, no one is perfect and we all do and say things we regret. The service starts with a welcome and introduction from Fr Tom, and during this time, he puts the children at ease and ensures they feel comfortable and understand how the service will proceed. Later, the children have an opportunity to share what is on their heart with Fr Tom or Fr Rajesh, and once they have done this, they have some time to reflect and say a quiet prayer before they return to class. Gentle music is played throughout, and there is a lovely, peaceful atmosphere as reconciliation takes place. We are so proud of the reverent and reflective way in which our pupils approached this afternoon’s service and hope they all feel a little lighter this afternoon as they prepare for the weekend!

‘Spot’ Patches

We have noticed that some of our older children have started wearing ‘spot’ patches to school. While we understand the purpose of these, we request that parents ensure that only the transparent patches are used in school. The colourful patches with stars and emojis on them have become a distraction and going forward, children using these will be asked to remove them. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Red Nose Day

We are pleased to support the upcoming Red Nose Day. We will hold a mufti day on Friday 21st March, 2025. Please send your child to school wearing red with a suggested donation of £1. Click here for further information on how your money helps, how to get involved and for online access to the Red Nose Day shop.

Wraparound Care

We are pleased to say that the majority of our parents are now consistently using our new booking-in system for Breakfast and After School Clubs. For any parents who are having issues, or have not yet started using the system, please see a member of the office staff for assistance and they will gladly help. The purpose of the electronic system is to reduce the administrative workload on our staff, and this cannot fully be realised until all parents are using it consistently. Of course, we understand that in life, things will crop up and parents sometimes become aware that they need to use wraparound care after the booking cut off time has passed. Bookings close at 2pm for After School Club. When this happens, please put a call through to the school office and they will let you know if there are spaces available. Thank you for your kind assistance with this.

Year 5 Kilve Assembly

Miss Droba and Year 5 cordially request the parents of Year 5 pupils to attend their Kilve Class Assembly next Wednesday, 19th March. At this assembly, you will hear all about the children’s trip to Kilve and it is sure to be a fantastic event. Please arrive from 2.50pm for a prompt 3pm start.

Parking Reminder

Please can we issue a polite reminder that parking and drop offs are not permitted in front of the school and this is signalled by the double yellow lines. Parking here causes unnecessary obstruction and prevents staff members and professional visitors (e.g. social workers and occupational therapists) access to the school gate key pad. In addition, we regularly have buses here to drop off and collect children, and our refuse collection has also been affected by cars illegally parked here. We do ask that parents adhere to this rule and are grateful for your understanding.

I hope you have a lovely weekend with your families and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!

 Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Headteacher
