27th June 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Heatwave

Looking ahead, we are due some very warm weather in the coming week, with temperatures approaching 30 degrees on Monday. As always, please ensure your child comes to school with suncream, plenty of water and a sun hat so we can ensure they don’t suffer from the heat.

Afterschool Club staff have noticed that children are coming to the club without hats and have asked if parents could remind their children that hats are needed during the school day and also at the afterschool club to ensure children have adaquate sun protection. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Fantastic Summer Fete

We are pleased to report that the wonderful PSG committee and their team of helpers, along with our generous school community, raised an impressive amount at last week’s Summer Fete.  We are awaiting final figures and will inform you of the final amount as soon as we have it. Thank you to all who visited the fete to lend their support and in particular, thank you to those kind volunteers who gave up their time to run a very successful event. Well done, all involved!

Save the Date – Saturday 12th July

Please see the flyer that is attached to this week’s newsletter. There is an exciting Jubilee Celebration Day being held at St George’s Church on Saturday 12th July and a great family day out is promised, with something to do for everyone. There will be music, dancing, art activities and more. There will even be an international food court. On the spiritual side, there will be a vigil mass, pilgrim stations and adoration. Moving Up and Transition

Next week, our Year 6 pupils will be attending their transition days at their new secondary schools. This is a very exciting time for them, and we wish them well on this significant occasion. Year 6 pupils attending transition days are not required to attend St George’s on these days, and parents should take their child directly to the secondary school for drop off and collect them at the end of the day.

For most schools, the transition days take place on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd July, although please check with individual schools that this is the case.

In addition to this, pupils in other year groups will be meeting their teachers for the new academic year on Wednesday nect week. This will be a lovely opportunity for the staff and pupils to get to know each other ahead of September and will provide reassurance for any children who are a little nervous about moving on.

KS2 Playground Equipment

Our school insurance covers the use of playground equipment during the school day by our pupils, when supervised by school staff and in the presence of a first aider. It does not cover use outside of these times. Please can we kindly remind parents and carers that the equipment should not be used before the start of the school day or after the end of the school day? This also applies to younger siblings who do not attend St George’s. If an accident were to occur when these areas are not supervised by staff or first aiders, immediate assistance is not likely to be available. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to our school rules and in helping us to keep children safe on our school site.

Reminder - EYFS Outdoor Learning Area

We are saddened to report that we are still noticing that the school’s EYFS curriculum resources have been played with and left discarded, causing unnecessary work for our EYFS team. Please see the photo below. As this is an outdoor classroom, we have taken the decision to keep the two access gates to this area locked until 8.40am, ensuring the resources are not disturbed before lessons begin. Therefore, we are asking pedestrians not to arrive before 8.40am, when the gates will open in time for pupils to attend Wake and Shake. We will also lock the gates at 3.40pm and reopen them for pedestrian access to collect children from clubs finishing at 4.30pm.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best wishes,

Edwina McDonnell

Headteacher
