6th December 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week in School
Father Tom and Father Rajesh visited the school today for our Christmas Penitential Service. Our pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 were in attendance. It was lovely to hear Fr Tom speak to the children about how much lighter we feel when we acknowledge the little mistakes we make and how wonderful it is to say sorry and know that we are forgiven. It is really important for children to understand that we all make mistakes - it is part of growing up.
Mr Hanratty used to say that mistakes are to be expected, inspected and respected. By this, he meant we will all slip up and get things wrong, but if we reflect on what we can do better next time and remember that it is a normal part of growing up, we will all be more tolerant towards each other, forgiving and being forgiven in turn. What a lovely message for the children to hear and I hope they all feel a little lighter and brighter as they go into the weekend.
Christmas Dinner Day
Have you ordered your child’s Christmas dinner online? The deadline is Wednesday 11th December. Our festive Christmas lunch will take place on Thursday 19th December and we are encouraging the children to wear a Christmas jumper if they have one. The Christmas decorations are now up in the Hall and with Nativity rehearsals in full swing, the school is feeling very Christmassy! We also had an unexpected delivery from a special friend at the North Pole today and I look forward to telling the children about it during Monday’s assembly.
Christmas Mass, Carol Concert and Mince Pies
We will be holding our End of Term Mass at the Church on Tuesday 17th December at 9.30am. Afterwards, we invite you to join us for mince pies and a hot drink served by the Chaplains in the Busy Room. We will draw winners for the raffle after the Mass. Make sure you are in with a chance to win by purchasing your tickets. Please see the office staff for details.
The Carol Concert will be held the following day, Wednesday 18th, at 2pm in the Church. We will open the playground as usual for parking and look forward to you joining us for these events.
Parent Support Group
Planning has begun for a school disco next term. Please get in touch with Laura (Mum of George and Jack in Year 5 and Year 1) or the office staff to let them know if you are available to lend your support. The disco is always very popular with the children, and the more parent help we receive, the more successful the event will be for the children. Thank you in advance for your support, which is always appreciated.
Amenities and Swimming
Please can we remind you that this term’s contribution for your child’s swimming lessons - £10 per term per child, is due. Can we also remind you that the amenities contribution of £10 per term per family is due. This allows us to fund our exciting extracurricular events such as theatre companies, performers and visiting artists. This should be paid to the school bank account, ending in 7152. Please quote reference ‘S’ for Swimming and ‘A’ for Amenities. Please contact the school office if you have any queries about this.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
Best wishes,
Edwina McDonnell
Headteacher
