28th February 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
GOLD!!!!!
Mr Chidgey would like me to inform you of some very exciting news. He took a range of pupils from St George’s to a local gymnastics competition in which 40 schools were participating across 3 age groups.
The children had worked hard and practiced diligently for the event, and Mr C hoped that they would do well, but he was blown away when the Year 1 and 2 children were ranked in 1st place, taking home gold medals.
When the Year 3 and 4 children performed their routines, they showed confidence and skill and once again, he was delighted when they were ranked in 1st place and took the gold! The pressure was on a little bit for the Year 5 and 6 children and Mr C encouraged them to give it their all. Can you imagine his elation when, after performing their routines, they took the top spot and secured the gold, meaning it was a clean sweep for the St George’s Gymnastics Team!!! What a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of Mr C and the pupils.
Kilve Court Residential Trip
Our Year 5 pupils were lucky enough to go to Kilve Court for a night away this week. They had glorious weather for the trip with Miss Droba reporting that the pupils had a wonderful time and the activites were immensely fun. Although it was cold, it was crisp, clear and sunny. Having been to Kilve in the rain and snow, I can certainly say that sunshine is preferable and it was very much appreciated by all!
Trips like this one provide a fantastic opportunity to develop team building skills and strengthen existing friendships. In many cases, new friendships are formed too, so there are lots of positives to taking part.
I’m sure you will join me in thanking Miss Droba, Miss Aspden and Mrs Thomas for giving up their time to take the children away. It has been a lovely opportunity for them to develop and grow.
World Book Day
As you may know, next Thursday 6th March is World Book Day. To celebrate, we are inviting the staff and children to bring in some slippers, or fluffy bed socks to wear in the afternoon. They can also bring in their favourite teddy and favourite story book to share with their reading buddy. There will also be lots of exciting reading themed activities throughout the day to inspire and develop the children’s love of reading. Remember to ask your child about the day and what their favourite part was.
The Big Lent Walk
Our Big Lent Walk is on Friday, 7th March. We are asking that children come to school wearing the Pilgrims of Hope colours (red, yellow, green, or blue) and we will be completing a walk in the local area. For more information on why we are undertaking this walk, please click on the link:

We are very much looking forward to making a difference to our global neighbours through our fundraising efforts this Lent. Thank you to Mrs Earp for organising this event.
Considerate Parking
Please can I issue a polite reminder to parents to return to their cars promptly once they have collected their child at the end of the school day, especially if they are blocking other cars in. If there is a need to discuss something with the class teacher, please arrive in time to secure a space which doesn’t block others in, or consider walking, cycling or parking off site to allow yourself the time required to have the discussion. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
If you get the chance, do say farewell and good luck to the wonderful Mrs Thomas (Year 1 teaching assistant) who is undertaking a new role at a school that is closer to her home. The staff and pupils are so thankful to Mrs Thomas for her hard work and dedication in her time at St George’s and we wish her all the best in her new adventure. She has had a tremendously positive impact on the pupils in her care and has helped so many pupils to grow in mind, body and spirit. We are very happy to say we will still see her every week, as she will continue her role as a swimming instructor at the school. Remember, Mrs Thomas – Once a St George’s girl, always a St George’s girl!
I hope you have a lovely weekend with your families and enjoy the sunshine!
Best wishes,
Edwina McDonnell
Headteacher
