Dear Parents and Carers,
This Week in School
It has been a very busy and eventful last week before half-term and the children (and staff) are all worn out! This is testament to the hard work and enthusiasm they show on a daily basis at St George’s and I am so proud of all the achievements and progress made, big and small.
We celebrated a very successful Harvest Mass in Church last Sunday and the room was packed to the rafters. The children led the Mass beautifully: the choir provided expert, tuneful accompaniment and the readers were clear, confident and reverent. I would like to extend my thanks to Mrs Godfrey, Mrs Tighe and Mrs Twort who have given up their time this half-term to prepare the children so well for their performance, and helped them to grow in confidence.
Today, we had our Harvest Festival and it was certainly a feast for the eyes and ears. The children were dressed very vibrantly in harvest fruit and vegetable colours, and every class performed a song, poem or drama to entertain and delight the school community. It was a roaring success and the children are to be commended for their wonderful singing voices, their flair for the dramatic and their confident performances. So many people attended the event that we could barely fit everyone in – it was our best attended Harvest Festival in over 20 years! I spoke to many parents afterwards who were full of praise for the children, and also the wonderful piano playing. We owe a special thanks to Mrs Tighe for this, as she accompanies us throughout the week in Gospel Assemblies, Hymn practices and our Golden Book assembly.
We would also like to thank the parents who were so generous in their donations to the Open Door homeless charity. I dropped the much needed items to the charity after the event and they were completely blown away by your generosity. They wanted me to pass on their sincere thanks for your kindness.
Night of Light
Father Tom has asked me to make you aware of the following Church event, which he explains below:
‘Our Night of Light celebration for primary school age children will take place on Tuesday 31st October from 3.30 to 5pm in the Taunton Catholic Centre. This will involve games and activities based on the lives of the Saints and finish with a time of prayer. There is no charge and anyone is most welcome to come for all or part of the event. Those who come always enormously enjoy this!’
